BOARD OF SUPERVISORS - WORKSHOP MEETING

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12, 2005

MINUTES

PRESENT:       Richard D. Harris, Chairman; Arland H. Schantz, Vice-Chairman; Joan B.         Dreibelbis,  Supervisor/Treasurer; Ellen L. Koplin; and Four (4) Members of the Audience

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Harris at 7:35 pm.

Comments were received throughout the meeting.

Mr. Harris gave an update on the Police Chief position.  He announced approximately 50 resumes were received and will be reviewed over the next month.

Mr. Schantz announced that Brown Daub had a fleet vehicle that will become available and could be a possible police vehicle for the township.

Retired Police Chief, Lloyd Ohl stated that the township should hire someone who is already Act 120 certified.

Mr. Harris replied that many of the applicants are out-of-state.  When advertising, we did not want to limit the requirements too much that we would receive a broad response.

Chairman Harris announced that we are gathering information from Cowan Associates and Keystone Consulting Engineers listing what jobs remain open that they will be finishing.

Anne Frey commented that the quarry property will potentially need to use the Schultz Bridge Road bridge.

Mr. Harris announced that a vacancy has occurred on the Board of Auditors and the Supervisors would like to fill it at the February 17 meeting.  Some discussion took place concerning the date of resignation and whether to convene the Vacancy Board for the February 17 meeting due to the expiration of the 30 day requirement for the Supervisors to fill the vacancy.

Anne Frey questioned the Supervisors if an employee manual has been put together yet and Mr. Harris said Mrs. Koplin has prepared the manual but it has not yet been adopted.  She also questioned why the township is not under OSHA and if safety standards are in place.

It was announced that many beneficial workshops are being conducted at the PSATS Annual Convention and each Board/Commission Chair will be notified that their members are encouraged to attend.  The Township will register and pay for the workshops.

A question was raised concerning the Zoning Hearing Board Docket for January 26.  The Geryville Materials Appeal is scheduled and it is anticipated a continuation will be sought.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:32 pm.
