* Southern Lehigh Elementary Schools Update*
At last night’s meeting held in the High School Auditorium, the School Board voted to Close Lower Milford Elem. and demolish and rebuild a bigger Hopewell Elem. School.
This is VERY disappointing. The only two Board members recognizing the need for keeping LM open were John Quigley and Kathy Parsons. Thank you to them for the effort as well as to everyone who spoke and signed petitions.
There are still huge questions…
1-why vote to spend tax dollars to fix a roof on Lower Milford Elem and 4 weeks later vote to close the building?
2-Why did the new Intermediate School cost in the neighborhood of $32 Mil to build but the new Hopewell will only cost $17 Mil? Really?
3-How does the School Board plan to “bring everyone back together” when there has been a long history of putting Lower Milford last?
4- and last but not least- When you are trying to “spend less and wisely” as stated by the Chair and Superintendent last night, that spending $17,000,000 is better than the $3,500,000 keeping all three schools open?
Questions, Questions, Questions…..
A letter summarizing the additional costs to the taxpayers should the School Board vote to approve the construction of a new school is available to read at the following link.
The Lower Milford Board of Supervisors authorized an analysis of the elementary school options as presented by the Southern Lehigh School District Board of Directors. The Supervisors are requesting to present their findings to the School Board. A copy of the analysis has been sent to the School Board President, Ms. Gunkle and a copy of the analysis may be viewed at the following link. As one of the three municipalities within the Southern Lehigh School District, we encourage Lower Milford residents to review the analysis and participate in the decision making process for the future of our children and our schools.

Are you organized? Want to help your community in an Emergency but don’t know how?
Consider becoming Lower Milford’s Emergency Management Coordinator!
This position is a very important volunteer post, during a major Emergency. It is a position that “coordinates” resources in the event of a disaster emergency from the office, follows up with state, federal and county agencies with reports and data from disasters and is involved with updating and maintaining the township emergency management plan.
You will be given extensive training as well as attend monthly meetings at the County level for updates and instructions.
Are you interested in Open Space, the Environment, Parks and the Fall Festival?
The Recreation and Open Space Board needs your help. There is still a position available on the 5 member Board helping to coordinate the Fall Festival, recommending Park improvements and fund raising. Monthly meetings, as needed, are held at the Township Building.
Additional information on these positions are located under “Boards and Commissions” page of this website.
School Board agreed to let Supervisor Snovitch and Township
Engineers review the LM Elementary issue!!
Supervisor Snovitch just received an email from Jeffrey Dimmig(School Board Chair) and Leah Christman(School Superintendent) approving Snovitch to review the Engineering information concerning our Elementary School. This is great news. Hopefully, when this review is done the School board will have the correct information to make an informed decision which leads to keeping our Elementary open.
Supervisor Snovitch, Supervisor Wright, a Twsp Engineer, a representative from Upper Saucon, as well as several School Board members went on a tour of the Hopewell and Lower Milford Elementary Schools last night. The tour was very enlightening on the conditions of both Schools. Mr. Snovitch will be adding the information gathered last night to his Report, which will be shared with the School Board and Public at the next School Board meeting. Please plan on attending to support Lower Milford Elementary!
Please continue to look for additional updates.
